Characteristics of
Starry Flounder
① Natural Habitat of Starry Flounder
Starry flounder is found in the Northern East Sea of Korea, Northern Japan, Sea of Okhotsk, Bering Sea, and Southern California.
② Benefits of Starry Flounder
Starry flounder contains high-quality protein, including essential amino acids. It is also rich in Omega-3 fatty acid that lowers blood pressure and facilitates blood circulation. Its rich vitamin D and B12 also enhances bone health and nervous system function. The selenium, iodine, and magnesium boost immunity and improve thyroid function while vitamin A and Omega-3 fatty acid contribute to eye health. Starry flounder is also loved as highly nutritious seafood with various benefits, including antioxidant effect.
③ Premium Species, Starry Flounder
Starry flounder is a premium fish species recognized in both academic and industrial fields. Starry flounder has a higher market price than general flatfish species, and this white-colored premium species has better texture than olive flounder. Starry flounder heavier than 500g is mainly consumed as sliced raw fish. The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute has published a starry flounder farming manual to recognize its high value and encourage aquaculture.
